Sequel to La niña de tus ojos, the engaging and delightful comedy Fernando Trueba directed with some members of the 1998 cast following the adventures and struggles of a troupe of actors, La Reina de España again follows the lives of the troupe: Macarena has become an international star; Ontiveros, the director, is back after spending time in a concentration camp due to his political ideas... and they all are now working in a big Hollywood production. Penélope Cruz effortlessly gets back into Macarena's shoes delivering an enchanting and fresh performance that blends perfectly with that of the other members of the cast. The film also features astonishing costumes by Lala Huete and beautiful photography by the veteran José Luis Alcaine. Under Trueba's direction, the film exhumes humour as well as his characteristic irony.
