Carlos visits his girlfriend Juana at the asylum where she works. Once there, he meets a fascinating group of people that are part of Juana's daily life, among which a woman who plays the harp obsessively, and a nurse who keeps repeating every word Carlos says. Asylum is Fernando Fernán Gómez's opera prima as a director. Taking as a starting point several short stories about the world of patients in psychiatric institutions, he reworks them in such a brilliant way, that it turns out into a sophisticated comedy with many, many clever misunderstandings...

FERNANDO FERNÁN GÓMEZ: UN RETRATO

Fernando Fernán Gómez: A Portrait

dir. Jesús García de Dueñas

Spain | 1976 | 10 min

In Spanish with English subtitles

Jesús García de Dueñas was a friend and mentee of Fernando Fernán Gómez. In 1976 he put together a series of reflections of Fernán Gómez on his work in film, theatre and television. An excellent starting point to get to know a bit better this wonderful man of culture.
